Frederick P. Block

Frederick P. Block Sr., age 82, passed away on April 26th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Calumet City, IL on December 18th, 1938 to the late Frank Block and Eleanor (Baumgartner) Block.  He spent his adolescent years in the greater south suburbs of Chicago. 

Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sharon (Enright) Block.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters:  Valeria (Carl) Tomich, Jerry Block, Virginia Block, Leroy Block, Loretta Foster, Kathy (Edward) Franiak.   

He is survived by his 5 children: Steven (Kathy) Block, Richard (Pamela) Block, Kathy Block, Nicholas (Kristin) Block, and Frederick Block, Jr.  He was the grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 3.  He is also survived by his sister Karen Griggs.  Fred was loved by his numerous nieces and nephews. 

Fred was a member of the Chicago Journeyman Plumber’s Local Union 130 UA.  He also served the Village of South Holland, Illinois as a building and code enforcement officer.  Fred was an active leader for many years in the Boy Scouts of America, a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics, and enjoyed watching/coaching his children in sports.  He was a man of faith and a servant at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood, IL.  As a father, brother, and son Fred always placed family first.  His leadership and guidance will forever be remembered and missed. 

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 6th, 2021, at Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 19500 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Glenwood, IL 60425. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics.
