Esther Ann Jarvis, age 77, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.
She was born on November 10, 1929 to William and Esther Nial Jarvis in New Milford Connecticut.
She received both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois. Ann arrived in Racine in 1953, and she taught at William Horlick High School until the day of her heart attack on January 15, 2007.
She was a true Horlick Rebel, a devoted teacher, and supporter of Horlick athletic teams, especially basketball. She earned many accolades for her teaching abilities, and was named ?Senior High School Teacher of the Year? in 1986. Ann was often sought out concerning Horlick High School History because she had a fantastic memory of her 53 years of teaching there.
Ann is survived by a sister Susan (Larry) Barca of Florida, two nephews Bill and Luis Rauld, and a niece Elizabeth Ford. She is also survived by the thousands of students she has taught over the years. There was almost nowhere in the world that Ann traveled that she did not run into a former student.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm. A program commemorating her life will take place in the Joseph L. Mooney Theater at Horlick High School followed by a reception in the cafeteria. Relatives, friends, colleagues, former and present students are invited to attend to share their memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to William Horlick High School, 2119 Rapids Drive, Racine, WI 53404, for a scholarship fund that will be established in her name.
