Eleanor C. (Celebre) Hughes, age 89 formerly of Racine, late of Island Park New York died Tuesday February 22nd 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center New York.
Born on February 10th 1922 in Gilbert MN she was the daughter of the late Peter and Blanche Kotowski.
She came to the Kenosha area as a young woman and was educated in the schools of Kenosha. She was a graduate of Kenosha High School.
In November of 1947 she would marry Adolph Celebre. He would precede her in death in 1955. She then married William Hughes in January of 1963. He would also precede her in death.
She was employed as a medical transcriptionist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine. She also worked for St. Catherine’s Hospital.
She was an avid bowler and golfer and participated in many area leagues. She was also a member of St. Richards’s Catholic Church in Racine.
She is survived by her son John (Laurie) Celebre, Salem, WI; her daughter Patricia (Seymore) Silverman, Island Park, NY; sister Marianne Nelson, Onalaska, WI; brother Leonard (Vivian) Kotowski, Kenosha; grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Silverman, Island Park, NY and Sarah (Josaph) St. Pierre, Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday February 28th 2011 at 11:00AM at St. Richards Catholic Church in Racine. (1509-Grand Avenue) Visitation with the family will be on Monday at the church from 9:30AM until the time of mass. Burial will follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery in Kenosha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
