Donald R. Hubbard, age 81 a resident of Pleasant Prairie died Wednesday January 19, 2011 at St. Catherine?s Hospital.
Born on June 2nd, 1929 in Kenosha he was the son of the late William and Verna (Wagner) Hubbard.
He was educated in the schools of Kenosha. He served in the United States Army, serving in the Philippines as well as Japan and was discharged on June 17th 1949. He continued serving in the US Army reserves for 17 years.
On September 26th 1953 he married Betty Sluga at the First Congregational Church in Kenosha.
He became a butcher and began his career at the Buehler Meat Market. He also worked at Connolly?s Finer Foods and with the Jewel Food Stores as well as L&M Meats. He then co-owned Ken and Don?s Food Mart in the Uptown area. He also co-owned Bridgecove Campground and Marina in Willis Texas for 15 years. When he moved back to WI in 1994 he was employed by Ace Hardware and the KFC on I-94.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. His family will also treasure the times they had at their cottage in Silver Lake. Their specific memory was about their friends loving to come for dinner because when the adults ate ?steak? everyone ate steak. He was known for his hand picked filets.
He was a serious WI sports fan and loved the Packers and the Brewers. He could be seen at the ?Sunnyside? of town being ?amused? by their video games. He will be missed by family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of Pleasant Prairie, three daughters Barb (Tim) Vanderhoef of Salem; Cindy (Jeff) Nyberg of Pleasant Prairie; Jean (Bob) Hamilton of Kenosha and grandchildren Nick and Brian Vanderhoef, Eric Nyberg and Amy and Garrett Hamilton. He is further survived by brothers in law, sisters in law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Art and Cliff Hubbard and a step brother Wally Zieth.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held Saturday January 22, 2011 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Kenosha. (1803-83rd Street) Visitation with the family will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00AM until the time of services. Entombment will take place at a later date at Sunset Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
