Dale J. Moyer, age 89 a resident of Kenosha died Sunday February 12th 2017 at Brookside Care Center.
Dale has lived a remarkable life and is well loved by all he leaves behind as well as those who have gone before him. Born on May 13, 1927 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Selma Marie (Gorski) Radtke, he subsequently found himself in St. Michael’s Orphanage in La Crosse, Wisconsin along with his older brother Dennis and little sister Marge. He was the little boy with the checker board under his arm looking for a challenger. For the rest of his life he excelled at checkers and shared his game with anyone interested. He, along with his sister, was adopted in 1937 by Fred and Lena Moyer. They were separated from their older brother and heartbroken to be so. Years later, the siblings and their birth mother were able to reconnect. Dale was raised lovingly but in austere conditions in rural Cadott, Wisconsin where he did much farm work for his disabled father. He graduated from Cadott High School in 1946, having been an outstanding offensive lineman for the football team. He joined the United States Navy and served a term in the Pacific Theater. Upon completing his service, Dale returned to Wisconsin and took up a series of jobs which varied greatly. Over the years, he was a great provider for his family and often worked far in excess of 40 hours a week at more than one job. He was a machine operator and cheese factory worker before he decided to head to Detroit for better paying job prospects. Passing through Kenosha with a buddy on the way to Detroit, he was impressed with the city and hired on with Simmons Mattress Company. On May 30, 1951 he married the love of his life, Mary Jane Schneider, at St. Joseph’s Church in Boyd, Wisconsin. They are longtime members of St. Mary Catholic Church and raised five children: James (Ann) of Cambridge, MA, Laurie (Jeff) of Monroe Township, NJ, Lisa (Mike) Bain of Mt. Pleasant, John (Carrie) of Mt. Pleasant, and Linda (Jeff) of Muskego. He built his first home in Pleasant Prairie by himself starting with digging the foundation and finishing with all the trim work inside. Dale continued working a variety of jobs including railroad work, lumber, cabinetry, cement, roofing, and a series of machine shop jobs. He worked nearly 30 years at Intermatic, Inc. as a top shelf screw machine operator and set-up man. He also owned and operated his own businesses including A1 Siding and Trim. Dale loved camping and was a charter and lifetime member of the Kenosha Ramblers Camping Club. Post-retirement, he volunteered for years at the Civil War Museum. He was an outstanding and decorated bowler as well as a fan of the Green Bay Packers and Marquette Warriors. He played Sheepshead with reckless abandon. His one enduring desire was to be a good provider and make things better for his kids than he had it. At this, he overwhelmingly succeeded. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane, parents, siblings, and beloved grandson Riley Bain. He is survived by his five children as well as ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dale is further survived by a half-brother Carl (Marie) Radtke. He leaves the world a better place with an enduring legacy of hard work and positive attitude in the face of adversity. The family thanks Betty Cornell, Dr.s Feuerbach, Joshi and Kreager as well as the caring staff at Brookside and Kenosha Hospital.
