Barbara J. Hagen, age 67, a resident of Rochester New York, formerly of Kenosha, passed away Sunday, January 28th, 2024, at her residence.
Born on May 28th, 1956, in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Harley K. and LaVerne (Fishback) Hagen. Barbara attended local Kenosha schools and graduated from Tremper High School, and earned her Bachelors Degree in Journalism from UW Whitewater.
She was employed as a proofreader and editor at West Publishing in Deerfield IL before transferring to Rochester NY where she retired after a long successful career.
To say Barb was an avid reader and a dog lover would be an understatement. If she wasn’t reading a book she was playing with or walking one of her dogs. Barbara will be sorely missed by all her wonderful friends in Rochester and Kenosha. She was devoted to her family and especially loved spending time with her nieces and great nephews and great nieces.
Barbara was a kind soul who had a big heart and a terrific sense of humor. Just a couple weeks before her passing she fondly recalled the time in the mid-nineties when her brothers David and Gary made her stand outside and take a 20 question Green Bay Packer fan entrance exam before they would let her in the house to watch the playoff game with them that day. Barb said: “I’ve never laughed so hard while being so cold in my life” (and yes, she passed the exam and was allowed in to watch the game) Her favorite expression was “Give me a hot dog and a cold beer with my family and friends and I’m a happy camper!”
Barbara is survived by one brother Gary (Joy) Hagen, one sister-in-law Diane Hagen, niece Jennifer (clint) Beam and their children, Henry James Beam and Sam Warren Beam, Niece Christie (Adam) Steinberg, and niece Katy (Kyle) Hoff and their children Ace Edward Hoff and Lily Joy Hoff.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother David Hagen, and great nephew Maverick John Hoff.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at 2:00pm in the chapel at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
