Arthur John Emil “Art” Waldow Jr. peacefully entered his eternal home in Heaven surrounded by his family on May 26th, 2019.
Art was born on July 13th, 1932 to Arthur and Carrie (Matson) Waldow Sr. He was baptized on September 4th, 1932 at Friedens Lutheran Church and took his confirmation vows at Friedens in 1947.
Art attended Victory school in Pleasant Prairie and Friedens Lutheran Jr. High School. He graduated from Friedens on June 6th, 1948. Art also graduated from Kenosha School of Vocational Adult Education on June 8th, 1950.
He joined the United States Army in 1952. Art was a corporal in the military police and was honorably discharged in 1954. He also served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
Art married the former Gladys Ann (Berger) Streich on December 15th, 1956 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Together they raised seven children, Elsid Waldow, Bonnie Waldow-Snyder, Cheryl (Edward) Phillips, James (Diane) Waldow, Denise Waldow, Wayne Waldow and Trishia (Bill) Voss.
For 31 years he was employed at American Motors Corporation beginning in 1952 and retiring in 1983. During his time he also drove truck for Blackmon Trucking and he owned and operated the Skelly gas station on Hwy 50 and I-94 with Clarence Strand.
Art Loved collecting cars, working with motors and machines. He loved to go “up north” to his cabin, hunting, snowmobiling and camping. He also loved traveling with his late wife, Gladys.
In addition to Art’s children, he is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a sister, Corrinne Pocan.
Art was preceded in death by, his parents; his wife, Gladys and two sisters, Mardell Wiegert and Alaina Sorenson.
Per Art’s wishes, services will be private.
