Alfred Nelson

Alfred “Al” G. Nelson, formerly of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday August 11th, 2015 at his home in Mauston, at age 76 following a long illness.

Al was born in Racineon December 29th, 1938 to Alfred B. and Alice J. (Hood) Nelson and was educated in the schools of Racine. In 1956, Al enlisted in the U.S. Army.

On October 13, 1964, Al married Alicia Kanios who predeceased him on August 12, 1978. On August 29, 1987, Al married Patty Schonscheck. They divorced in 1997, but started dating again in 2000 and were re-married on May 26, 2006. Al had a long military career and then became a long haul truck driver for numerous companies until his illness caused him to retire.

Al was an avid Bingo player, and Tuesday’s at Ho-Chunk were his favorite. He was a Packers and Brewers fan and loved to fish. His claim to fame though was making his own fishing rods and customizing them. He even made a special “Wedding Fishing Rod” for his grand daughter when she got married.

Al is survived by his wife Patty, his four sons Dale (Cindi) Nelson of New Lisbon, Roy Bunch of Mauston, Adam (Courtney) Fiegel of Kenosha and Tim Nelson of the U.S.Navy, and by his seven daughters, Marilee Nelson of Texas, Lisa (Scott) Ramig, Angel Licht, Robin (Anthony) Suhajda and Danielle Arcuri, all of Kenosha, Sarah (Ian) Rada of Minneapolis and Kellie Hancock of Sauk City. Al is also survived by 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, by his brother Ruben Hood, and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by one sister Marilee Nelson in April 2011, and one great grandchild Elena Rada in 2014.

Funeral services will be Tuesday August 18th 2015 at 6:00PM at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha. (6028-8th Avenue or across from Library Park) Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday at the Woman’s Club from 4:30PM until the time of services. Burial with full military honors will take place on Wednesday August 19th 2015 at 10:00 AM at Southern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove WI.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the family would be appreciated.
