Alan Joseph Schaubel, 73, witty charming, deeply loving, and cherished by all who knew him, died Sunday June 20th, 2021, at his home with his family at his side. He will be forever missed by Penelope, his wife of 52 years, their son, Justin, daughter-in-law, Roberta and grandchildren, Aiden, and Paige Schaubel. Alan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and earned a BS degree in Art at UW Whitewater, class of 1969. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1973. In the 1970s, Alan taught Intro to Art and Ceramics at UW Parkside, Carthage College and Rockford College, then began exhibiting his work at various juried Art Festivals throughout the Midwest and Florida for the next 20 years, winning numerous prizes and awards. As a young father, Alan was very involved in coaching Kenosha youth soccer and youth baseball from 1974 to 1985. He especially enjoyed coaching, teaching basic baseball skills, encouraging kids at all levels to develop, enjoy the game, focus on teamwork and just having fun. Alan loved the game of golf, briefly worked at Bristol Oaks, and golfed as often as possible here in Wisconsin and while wintering in Florida for the past 15 years. Alan was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in 2011. We would like to thank the staff at the Kenosha Aurora Cancer Center for their dedicated care for the past 9 years. We extend special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Malik Bandealy for his excellent care and persistence treating a relentless and determined disease. Throughout his treatments, Alan maintained his wit, sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and lively personality. The family is planning a celebration of Alan’s Life early in August. Friends and family will be privately invited at a later date.

Al was a great guy. I was assistant basketball coach with him at the CYC many, many years ago. He made the experience enjoyable for every youngster he coached, regardless of their skill level. He will be missed. My condolences to Al’s family.

We were extremely blessed to know this amazing man. His upbeat personality, wittiness, sense of humor and his love of playing cribbage are just a fraction of what we will miss about Alan. We are grateful to have many memories and wonderful photos to keep him in our hearts always. We know he’s up there making the angels laugh as well as teaching them cribbage. ❤️

Sonny and I were honored to be with Penny and Alan at St. Pete Beach March, 2020.
We all bonded and had a wonderful time…. on the balcony. Alan told us many stories that we truly enjoyed and will always cherish. The world needs more Alan’s.

Years ago (1970’s) at the lake front festival we acquired one of Mr Schaubels work, a woman in the French cave paintings and phases of the moon. It has been one of our most treasured pieces. He will live on forever thru his art. God bless the artists.
