William Thomas Doherty Sr., 80, of Pleasant Prairie, Wi passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 7, 2018.
Bill, the middle of three children, was born to George and Irene (Witkowski) Doherty on August 7, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Philips Catholic schools in Chicago. In June of 1952 he, his parents and siblings moved to Pleasant Prairie, Wi. He then attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Kenosha, Wi as part of the Class of 1955. On May 9, 1959 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Kenosha, Wi Bill married Mary A. Czarnecki. They were married for 58 years and had four children.
Bill worked for Ken-Crete for 37 years until his retirement in 1994 and he was a member of Teamsters Union Local 43. He was a longtime member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church where he was one of the original altar boys, an usher, a member of the Holy Name Society and the “Over the Hill Gang” which helped maintain the grounds. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 63 years. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, building model cars and planes, tending to his garden and yard and watching his favorite sports teams the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Bill was able to fulfill his longtime dream of seeing the Cubs win the World Series. Bill enjoyed going to breakfast and playing cards with his retired friends from Ken-Crete. Bill will be remembered most for his sense of humor and his ability to make anyone and everyone laugh.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary and their four children, Barbara (Robert J.) Ziccarelli, William (Elizabeth) Doherty Jr., John (Melinda) Doherty and Joan (Geoffrey) Miller; nine grandchildren Theresa (Brian) Golwitzer, Shawn (Laisa) Lillie, William G. Doherty, Katelyn Miller, Andrew Doherty, Michelle (Jason) Leindecker, Angela Ziccarelli, Amanda Doherty and Thomas Doherty; three great-grandchildren Frank Wells, Sandra Golwitzer, Anastasia Golwitzer and a fourth on the way. He is further survived by his sister Phyllis Wachowiak; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother James G. Doherty, his in-laws Clayton and Josephine (Gburkowski) Czarnecki, and three grandchildren Sandra Ziccarelli, Robin Miller and Sarah Lillie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 11, 2018 at 11:00AM at St. Therese Catholic Church in Kenosha. (2020 91st Street) Visitation with the family will be on Thursday at the church from 9:30AM until the time of mass. Entombment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
