Sheldon Faber, 94, of Trevor, passed away peacefully at home from a broken heart on Thursday, May 11, 2017.
Sheldon was born on September 16, 1922, in Silver Lake to the late Jacob and Millie (Ganzlin) Faber.
Sheldon married the love of his life, Katy, on September 7, 1946, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wilmot.
Sheldon served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific for three years as a combat engineer. He was the owner/operator of Faber Construction, retiring in 1987 and then passing the business down to his son, Gary, and then to his grandsons Jeff and Casey. He was a member of the Silver Lake American Legion for over 60 years, founded the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club in 1957 and served as chief of the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He loved playing cards, especially with his beloved niece Debbie Dykstra. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, family fishing trips, gardening, traveling, but most of all cooking for his entire family. His specialties were his homemade spaghetti sauce and countless homemade soups.
Surviving Sheldon are his three sons, Butch Faber of Wheatland, Gary (Barb) Faber of Trevor, Mike (Terry) Faber of Silver Lake; daughter Colleen (fiancée Roger Johnson) Dykstra of Silver Lake; as well as his seven grandchildren, Jimmy (Michelle), Michelle, Jeff, Casey (Mindy), Tiffany (Karl), Jacob (Amber), Jessica (Chris); 13 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Tyler, Olivia, Gavin, Calvin, Ardyn, Ashlyn, Katey, Mikayla, Hailey, Tayten, Ryker and Colton; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Katy, who passed away last week; his parents, eight brothers, Reinald, LeRoy, Kenneth, Robert, Jacob, Lyle, Walter, Donald Faber; and four sisters, Mildred Goehring, Shirley Klontz, Marge Null and Genevieve Felleti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church (Sheridan Road at 73rd Street). Visitation with the family will be held on Monday at the church at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment with full military honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Special thank you to Dr. Brian J. Hettrick and his staff and Heartland Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care, especially Nancy Joy for being with Sheldon during his final moments.
