Michael B. Schmidt, age 58, a resident of Kenosha, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 12th, 2016 following a year long battle with cancer.
Michael was born February 6th 1958 in Kenosha, the son of the late Elroy and Gloria (Kohn) Schmidt. He was educated in local schools and graduated in 1975. In 1979, he was united in marriage with Shirley Rintamaki. He worked as a meat cutter for many years before becoming a drywall finisher. He worked locally for many years before he retired due to health challenges. He then worked part-time for the Kenosha Parks Department as a groundskeeper.
Mike was an avid sports fan, supporting the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs, as well as local college and high school teams. He enjoyed cooking, especially on his grill, often experimenting with his own recipes. Spending time with his grandchildren and sharing their stories with others always made him smile.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife Shirley, and by his sons Michael (Melissa Klinkhammer), Eric (Andrea Daoust) and Joseph who is currently stationed in Japan with the U.S. Navy. He is further survived by his grandchildren Jordan, Michaela, Emilee, and Cayden as well as his Kenosha family members and his brothers Keith (Merri) of Florida, Mark (Sue) of Ohio, Randy of Gillette WI and sister Karie (Dale) Underhill as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be on February 27th, 2016 at 10:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:30AM at Messiah Lutheran Church (2026-22nd Ave.). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
We would also like to thank the 2nd floor staff of St. Catherine’s Hospital and all the physicians that provided treatment.
