Shirley Mae Heyden, age 86 a resident of Kenosha passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27th 2015. She died as she lived-with dignity, grace and with her loving family by her side.
Born in Kenosha on July 1st, 1929, she was the daughter of Malcome and Vivian (Leonard) Mohr. When Shirley was young, she took care of her sister Sandy and kept house for her dad.
On September 7th, 1953, she married William C. Heyden. After she wed, she was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and later St. Mary’s Church.
Shirley was very involved in her children’s activities. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for them. She had a gift for gardening and baking and was known for her beautifully decorated home. She was a member of many bowling leagues and loved to bowl with her friends.
Shirley did the book keeping and worked in the family business, Heyden’s Market, but the job that she enjoyed the most was taking care of her grandchildren. She did that for as long as she could.
Surviving Shirley are her children, William (Patricia) Heyden of Modesto, CA, Jodie (Eddie) Zarletti and Lee Ann Heyden both of Kenosha and Michael (Karina) Heyden of Columbus, IN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Short, Brenda Zarletti, Tony (Bia) Zamarripa, Lena Carruba, Shana, Ryan, Nicole, Haley, Katherine and Hannah Heyden, Lauren (Bobby) Walls, step granddaughters Karen (Chris) Pena, Beth (Raul) Geck and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, her sister Sandy (Damon) Adams and her sister and brother -in-law Phyllis and Roger Rozinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley will be held on Saturday October 31st, 2015 at 11:00AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church (the corner of 39th Ave. and 73rd St.). Visitation with the family will be Saturday at St. Mary’s from 9:30 until the time of Mass. Burial will be at St.George Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Alliance, St. Mary’s “Boiler Fund” or to St. Vincent DePaul would be appreciated.
Shirley’s family is so grateful to Hospice Alliance, especially to Chaplin Terry for his spiritual care, to Jessica for her listening ear and support, to Kamara for her oldies music therapy and to Julie and Pat for their compassion and awesome care provided.
