Donald Henry Kirshbaum, age 89, a lifelong resident of Kenosha, passed away on December 25th, 2023. He was born on November 27th, 1934, to the late Henry and Bernice (Przybylski) Kirschbaum in Kenosha. He attended local schools and graduated from Kenosha High School with the class of 1953. After high school, he enlisted in the Army, and served for two years before being honorably discharged in 1956. On October 3rd, 1959, he married Sandy Steinhoff in Kenosha having recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. He began his career at the Kenosha News, retiring in 1997 as a production manager after 40 years of service.
Donald loved restoring cars and especially loved his 1964 ½ Ford Mustang and 1955 Ford Sunliner, taking both cars to many cars shows over the years. He was also a member of the Kenosha Car Club. He loved golfing and was proud of shooting a hole in one at Bristol Oaks on July 6th, 1995. Don loved traveling with Sandy, winters in Hawaii, boating, gardening and being outdoors. He cherished spending time with his family, including his many pets.
Donald is survived by his wife Sandy, children: Don (Jan) Kirschbaum, Daniel Kirschbaum, Kris (Mike) Hill, and Karen (Shawn) Dixon, grandchildren: Dana Kirschbaum, Jordyn Kirschbaum, and Kyle Hill. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister: Gladys Carney, and brother-in-law: Jim Carney.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alby Antoo and his staff, Aurora at Home Hospice, Right at Home, and his last few years at Kenosha Place for all their wonderful care and compassion.
Visitation with the family will take place at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (9091 Prairie Ridge Blvd) on January 3, 2024, from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM with mass to follow. Inurnment will take place privately at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Kenosha Humane Society or St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Donald’s name.
